Tailored Energy exists because too many people are sold the same system regardless of how they live. This is a business built on getting that part right.
I've been working in industries connected with improving New Zealand homes since 2011.
My career began in the Healthy Homes sector, working with homeowners, landlords and property managers to make properties warmer, drier and cheaper to run. That covered insulation, ventilation and heating, and helping rental properties meet the New Zealand Healthy Homes Standards. I was also involved in work connected with the EECA Warmer Kiwi Homes programme.
That period taught me something that still shapes how I work: the right improvement, matched to the right house, makes an enormous difference to the people living in it. The wrong one is money spent for very little.
As solar, battery storage and home energy technology kept improving, I wanted to understand the industry properly rather than from the outside. I moved to Australia and spent years working across residential and commercial solar, battery storage, EV charging and modern home energy systems, a market considerably further along than ours, with a much wider range of products, system designs and customer situations to learn from.
Now I'm bringing that back to New Zealand. Tailored Energy combines a background in healthy homes with hands-on experience in renewable energy.
Every home is different. Every family uses electricity differently. Every customer has different goals. Some want to cut their power bill. Some want backup for outages. Some want to charge an EV from their own roof. Others just want a warmer, more efficient house.
I don't believe in selling the same package to everyone. The right solution depends on how you use energy, what you want to achieve, and what actually makes financial sense for you. That's the whole idea behind the name, and behind how the business runs.
Through recommendations, repeat customers and a strong local reputation. If someone asks one of our customers who they should talk to about solar, batteries, EV charging or air conditioning, we want them to recommend us without hesitating.
That only works if we're honest, including when the honest answer costs us a sale.
Seven things we commit to on every job, from the first phone call through to the years after the install.
We take the time to understand what you actually need.
We explain your options clearly, in plain English.
We only recommend products we trust and would fit at our own place.
We design systems properly, around your property and your usage.
We tell you when something isn't worth doing.
We never pressure anyone into a decision.
We're still here after the installation is finished.
Anyone can install solar panels. The difference is whether you end up with a system that suits you. Here's what we look at before recommending anything.
This business came out of hands-on work, not a sales office. Battery installs, switchboard upgrades, roof work, commissioning, the experience behind the advice comes from having done the job, which is why the design and the finished install tend to match.

We design and install right across the Auckland region.
